North Kingstown is a city in Washington County, Rhode Island. Incorporated in 1637, North Kingstown was largely an agricultural community in the 18th century made up of small to mediumsized farms run by local families.
The 19th century took advantage of the city’s many rivers and streams with the construction of several mill villages. Although today North Kingstown is largely made up of residential homes, some of the historical architecture remains around the city including the Old Narragansett Church—the oldest Episcopal Church building in New England.
With an impressive school system, North Kingstown is a great city for families. North Kingstown Sr. High School was ranked third in the state by U.S. News & World Report. There are also many activities for families to enjoy together around the city including the Biomes Marine Biology Center, the Quonset Air Museum and the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park.
Residents and visitors can get a taste of local history (as well as some shopping) at Wickford Village. The commercial village includes architecture from the 1700’s including homes, churches and gardens. North Kingstown also offers Rhode Island Bay Cruises including lighthouse cruises and Newport Harbor tours, Rhode Island Tall Ships Cruises and Martha’s Vineyard Fast Ferry.
Although North Kingstown is believed to have a high cost of living, there are homes for sale in a wide range of prices that can fit any budget. The city has many types of real estate available including single and multifamily homes, apartments, condominiums and townhouses. Many homes have spacious interiors with large yards and gorgeous waterfront views. Colonial style homes are popular in North Kingstown, but other styles such as custom designed homes and historic properties including barns can be seen around the city.
North Kingstown is a small town on the west side of Narragansett Bay and has great beaches and boating.
